As we wrap up another year in California agriculture, I want to take a moment to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. The holidays are always a good time to slow down, look back, and appreciate just how far we have come. 2025 was a big year. It brought plenty of challenges but also some incredible wins and reminders of why we do what we do.
When I look back, I see an industry full of hardworking, creative people who keep moving forward no matter what comes their way. Growers are adapting to new markets, processors are finding smarter ways to run leaner and stronger, and the entire agricultural community continues to show why California sets the standard for agriculture around the world. It has been a tough year in many ways, but I am proud to be part of this community and proud to tell your stories through West Coast Nut.
2025 in Review
This year, West Coast Nut kept growing right alongside the industry. Our magazine continued to be a trusted source for real stories, research and updates that matter to growers and consultants. Our readership stayed strong, our digital newsletters hit new records, and our live events, from the Crop Consultant Conference to MyAgLife education programs, were some of our bests yet.
The Crop Consultant Conference was a highlight again this year with record attendance. It is always rewarding to bring together consultants, researchers and industry leaders to share ideas and real-world insights. Seeing younger professionals step up, ready to lead the next chapter of California agriculture, gives me a lot of hope for where we are headed.
MyAgLife also continued to grow as one of our most valuable platforms for education and connection. Our podcasts, videos and continuing education courses reached thousands of professionals across the state. It is exciting to see how this digital community has become a daily stop for so many in the industry who want to learn, stay sharp and stay connected.
I am so proud of our editorial and production teams, including Cecilia, Kristin and Taylor, for the energy and creativity they bring every day. They care deeply about this industry and work hard to make sure every story and image reflects that.
And to our advertisers and sponsors, thank you. You are a huge part of what keeps this publication strong. Your support allows us to create valuable content that helps everyone in the industry succeed. You are not just sponsors; you are partners.
We appreciate every one of you.
Family, Friends and Faith in the Future
As we head into the holidays, I find myself more thankful than ever for the people around me. Family, friends and colleagues are what make this work meaningful. Agriculture is full of long days, big risks and unpredictable challenges, but it is also full of community. We look out for each other. We share advice, lend a hand and celebrate wins together.
Some of my best moments this year were not at conferences or in meetings but around the dinner table, on drives through the Valley or catching up with friends over coffee. These are those simple moments that remind me why I love this business and this community so much.
Farming has a way of teaching us patience, faith and gratitude. You plant with hope, you nurture with care and you harvest when the time is right. The end of the year feels a lot like that. It is a time to reflect, to be thankful and to look forward to what is next.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we move into 2026, I feel excited about what is ahead. We all know the challenges, including water, regulations, global markets and the constant need to adapt. But I believe there has never been a better time to be in California agriculture. Innovation is happening everywhere. Data and technology are changing how we farm. More than ever, people are paying attention to where their food comes from and the people who produce it.
At West Coast Nut, we are focused on continuing to grow with you. Next year, you will see deeper coverage on innovation, sustainability and leadership across the tree nut industry. We are also building stronger connections between print, digital and events so that you can get information wherever and whenever it is most useful.
We will keep investing in partnerships that bring together the best voices in the field, including researchers, growers, consultants and businesses. Together, we can all share what works and learn from each other. That collaboration is what keeps California agriculture strong.
Why California Agriculture Still Matters
Even with everything we face, we are lucky to do what we do here. California agriculture is unique. It takes grit and heart to farm here, and not everyone is cut out for it. Those who are make up one of the most resilient, innovative and community-minded industries in the world.
We have challenges, yes, but we also have incredible opportunity. The land we work, the technology we use and the relationships we build all shape the future. I believe that future is bright.
A Final Word of Thanks
To every grower, consultant, supplier, processor and advertiser reading this, thank you. You are the reason West Coast Nut exists. Your trust and support mean everything to me and to our entire team. We take pride in being your voice, your platform and your partner in success.
As we close the book on 2025, I hope you take time to rest, celebrate and enjoy the people who make life meaningful. May your homes be filled with laughter, your orchards be healthy and productive, and your hearts be full of hope for the year ahead.
From my family to yours, merry Christmas and happy New Year. Thank you for being part of the West Coast Nut family. I cannot wait to see what we will grow together in 2026.
With gratitude,
Jason Scott
